Blog Post #4: Character Types in Drama

 Character Types in Drama

The drama has many different character types that
present ways to tell a developed and well-told plot. You have a basic one, the protagonist which is the main character and focus of the story. In my Psychological Drama it will be entirely focused on the journey and struggles of them. Also have an antagonist, which in my case is going to involve a constant undermining of the main character, rather than a villain or "evil" person. In addition, supporting characters are used to build the relationships and dynamics of the main character, helping the development of the plot. The use of stock characters are also going to be used, which are characters that fulfill a specific role and trait. They help relationships build and increase the amount of emotion in a specific plot that further show a character's morals.

These characters help tell a plot, and in my case show a theme that represents everyday life. I want to be able to show a story that can be seen and analyzed as a deep and personal success of an individual. So, I will be using the characters listed to do such.

Blog Post #3: Drama conventions

Drama Conventions

In Drama there are many conventions that help engage the audience, but to also add aspects that audiences will be able to recognize and analyze. These conventions of genre create a plot that will help me create a genre that can correctly represent my theme.

For one, Dramas are typically dialogue heavy, since this dialogue is what creates the tension and the obstacles between the characters in the story. Dialogue can also help just create relationships that will be able to develop the understanding of the plot and the story as a whole.

The plot is often in chronological order, since it shows a dramatized order of events that will develop throughout. It can either be fast or slow-paced and creates this way of telling a story that shows everything that can impact it. It adds the tensions and the overall look of how relationships build and more.

The actions in the story usually involve a risk of something, whether it's personal or physical risk. It gives the character some kind of battle/obstacle that develops a dramatic and tense environment for them.

Lastly, the emotions of the drama are high and often exaggerated. Showing tension and building the characters morals and feelings to a point where they can convey a message.

Blog Post #1: The Idea

TITLE: Journey beside (My)self

My project was formed by my idea of self perseverance and learning. This is why my theme(s) revolves around the idea of a person beating there own obstacles, instead of relying on another to help them achieve it. This is going to be a common thing through-out my project and it is going to challenge the idea of needing someone to help you go over or achieve an obstacle/goal. It is also going to develop a deep connection with the audience because of the issues it talks about. Mine is going to be a lot like a message that will not only get a point across, but to also help the audience themselves.

Specific Themes I plan on using in my project:

- "The only person stopping you from achieving greatness is yourself"
-  "Failing is what paves the way for growth"
-  "Achievements can be small but your growth is fuel for more"
- "Sometimes when in a dark, dark time, the only person that can help you up is yourself."

This project is what I plan to be kid-revolved for now since I believe that it will show the early struggles of childhood like wanting to fit in. It is going to set a clear tone of longing for something normal, something with purpose to the character.  Also it develops the sense of showing an understanding of a child growing and figuring out the ways to deal with their own problems, rather than if they were coddled. Overall, my plans for this project are going to be very big on child-development and it's going to include a lot of common issues. Stuff like self doubt, self-perseverance, and more.

Blog Post #2: Psychological Drama

 Psychological Drama

Drama being one of the oldest forms, is also one of the most diverse dramas. It can be held to many standards in many different ways, as the genre of Drama is the exploring of human condition, moral dilemmas, and complex relationships. It is heavy in dialogue and it thrives on its  character development. I'm going to use it to mainly show that aspect, since I need the intense emotions to develop and grow my characters.

My specific genre of choice is Psychological Drama, which is when it is character and mental conflict focused. This will help me develop my characters mental battle, which helps with my theme of self-driven success. Therefore, it is going to be really important and going to be used effectively as a character driving dynamic. The obstacles are going to be about the self, rather than actual physical battles like in other dramas. Also, my use of characters is going to become a smaller amount because of the fact that I want the main focus on one story-line and one main person.
